Hi Jonathan,
Great question! We prioritize micro-skills based on several considerations: (1) how foundational micro-skills are relative to one another; (2) which skills are most needed in a particular context; and (3) interest. Some skills can be built with little knowledge about the nature of the skill and others are best built as knowledge is acquired. “Cultivating curiosity” could be broken down into several steps, each focused on a specific micro-skill. Ideally, the practice of each micro-skill would lead to the discovery and successful practice of the following micro-skill. Information about each micro-skill could be introduced as part of the “seek” step in a micro-VCoL.
This way of learning works best with a playful, experimental mindset, employing an iterative “dynamic steering” approach to determining next steps. There is no “correct” or one-size-fits-all recipe beyond the steps in the VCoL and the acquisition of basic VCoLing skills.
